William F. Allee was born in Hendricks County, Ind., in 1844. He enlisted as a private in the 22nd Indiana Infantry Regiment, Company K, in 1861. Allee participated in every regimental engagement and was promoted to the rank of captain in 1865. After the war he married Eliza Merrill Parker and the couple raised four children. The 22nd Indiana Infantry Regiment was organized at Madison, Ind., in July 1861. The regiment participated in the Battle of Stone River, the charge up Mission Ridge, and was part of Sherman's Army in Chattanooga.
