Elizabeth Ellis Hoyt was born in Augusta, Maine, January 27, 1893, and died in Ames, Iowa, November 22, 1980. Education: A.B., Boston University, 1913; A.M., Radcliffe College, 1924; Ph. D. Radcliffe, 1925. Profession: University professor. Appointments held: Researcher, National Industrial Conference Board, New York, 1917-1921; Instructor, Wellesley College 1921-1923; Associate Professor, 1925-1927, Professor, 1927-1980, Iowa State University. Publications: Primitive trade (1926); The comsumption of wealth (1928); Consumption in our society (1950); The income of society (1950); American income and its use (1954); Choice and destiny of nations (1969); and 100 or more professional articles. Developed forerunner to Consumer Price Index as researcher with National Industrial Conference Board. Fulbright (1950) led to development of African libraries.
