A graduate of Sydney University as Bachelor of Engineering in Mining and Metallurgy. He joined the staff of the Mount Morgan Mine in 1904. When the mine closed in 1927 he taught at Ipswich Grammar School. In 1934 he returned to Mount Morgan to join the staff of Mount Morgan Ltd as Chief Surveyor and Examining Mining Engineer.
