Biographical notes:

George Fairbanks Bixby (1830-?) the son of Ichabod and Susanna (Lewis) Bixby, Jr. was born in Chelsea, Orange County, Vermont. He was employed in Vermont as a teacher, farmer, and dentist until his removal to Plattsburgh, Clinton County, New York. In 1860 Bixby married Deborah Stephenson and they had two children, George Stephenson Bixby and Helen Stephenson Bixby. Bixby continued as a dentist in Plattsburgh until 1873 when he became a partner with Ransom R. Grant in the Plattsburgh "Republican," a Democratic newspaper established in 1811. In 1892 George F. Bixby bought his partner's interest and ran the paper as owner and editor until his retirement in 1905. Helen S. Bixby appears to have succeeded her father as editor. George Stephenson Bixby (1861-1937) was a lawyer, journalist, and author whose papers on New York State Governor David B. Hill can be found in the David Bennett Hill Papers (SC15275).
