Anthony Woodward Ivins (1852-1934) was born in New Jersey, came with his parents to Utah in 1853, and was among the first settlers in St. George, Utah. He served a mission for the LDS Church in Mexico in 1875. Upon returning he married Elizabeth A. Snow. He performed another mission in 1878 to Arizona and New Mexico. He served in numerous capacities in the Church, including Y.M.M.I.A. president, stake president, mission president, apostle, and member of the First Presidency.
He served in many civic roles, including constable of St. George, city councilor, city attorney and mayor, deputy sheriff, county prosecuting attorney, county assessor and collector, and legislator, served on the State Constitutional Convention in 1895, vice-president of the Genealogical Society of Utah, and government Indian agent for the Shebit Indians.
Professionally he enterprised as a private stockman, manager of the Mojave Land and Cattle Company and the Kiabah Cattle Company, vice president and general manager of the Mexican Colonization and Agricultural Company, vice president of Zion's Saving Bank & Trust Company, and director in the Deseret Savings Bank and Utah State National Bank.
