Rosemary Sutcliff was born December 14, 1920, in East Clanden, Surrey, England, and died July 23 (one source says July 22), 1992. She is considered to be one of the greatest writers of children's literature. Her historical novels were meant for both children and adults, and were known for a deep comprehension of historic details, and credible characters.
