Gordon, William E.,

William Gordon was born on October 12, 1911 in Morgan County, Illinois. He received a B.A. from the University of Minnesota in 1937 and a Ph.D. in quantitative ecology from there in 1941. Gordon was a professor at the George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis from 1951 to 1978. Before coming to Washington University, Gordon taught in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the University of Minnesota from 1941 to 1942 and at the Nashville School of Social Work, Vanderbilt University from 1948 to 1951. He served as chief at the Bureau of Research and Statistics, Division of Social Welfare for the State of Minnesota from 1942 to 1945. He was a regional research consultant for the Social Security Administration in Minneapolis, Minnesota from 1945 to 1948.

Margaret Schutz Gordon was born on January 11, 1921 in St. Louis, Missouri. She received her B.A. with majors in psychology and sociology in 1943 from Washington University in St. Louis. She received her M.S.W. in 1944 from the George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University. She was an instructor and thesis supervisor at the school from 1944 to 1948 and then professor and director of field instruction from 1957 to 1970. From 1970 to 1983, Schutz was a professor and director of field practicum at the University of Kansas. She then became professor emerita. Both of them were heavily involved in social work research and have been widely published.
