Medical missionary and physician (Women's Medical College of Pennsylvania and Cornell Medical College, M.D., 1899), Scudder, who had been born in India to missionary parents, returned to build a hospital and found and head the Vellore Christian Medical College, the first Christian medical school in South India to train women doctors.
