New York Central Sleeping Car Company.
Biographical notes:
Sleeping car company formed in 1866 by Webster Wagner and controlled after 1868 by Cornelius Vanderbilt of the New York Central.
In 1886, after several lackluster years following the 1882 death of Wagner, the name of this major Pullman competitor was changed by its new chief executive, William Seward Webb, to the Wagner Palace Car Company. Pullman finally purchased Wagner in 1899 for 36.5 million dollars.
