Biographical notes:

Charles E. Flandrau, Minnesota judge and grandfather of Isabella Greenway, established a law practice in St. Paul, Minn. in 1853 where he was active in public life. His son, Charles Macomb Flandrau, was an author and essayist. Another son, William B. Flandrau married Grace Hodgson Flandrau who was a novelist and appeared on St. Paul radio programs. John W. Riddle, step-son of Judge Flandrau, was a diplomat at Constantinople, Turkey (1893-1900), U.S. Ambassador to Russia (1901-1903 and 1906-1909), Egypt (1903-1905), Romania (1905-1906) and Argentina (1921-1925); his wife, Theodate Pope Riddle, was an architect.
