Biographical notes:
Born in Decatur, Alabama, Edward Richardson Crockett (1834-1917) settled in Oso, Texas, around 1853 and married Agnes Mercer, with whom he had three children. During the Civil War, he enlisted in Company F, Fourth Texas Infantry, Hood’s Brigade of the Confederate Army, rising to the rank of captain. Wounded seven times and imprisoned twice, Crockett fought at the battles of Gettysburg, Chickamauga, the Wilderness, Spotsylvania, and Cold Harbor, among a hundred other engagements. Following the war, he operated a farm near Manor and later near Georgetown.
