Jean Eilers was born Portland, Oregon, 28 October 1940. She served as a Holy Child teaching Sister (1962-1976); labor paralegal and organizer for United Farm Workers (1976-1981); organizer for SEIU Locals 49 and 503 (retired 2010); and AFL-CIO State Director (1994-2005).
