Franklin Patterson was the first president of Hampshire College, holding that office from 1965 to 1971. He wrote The Making of a College, the educational blueprint for the new experimental college, and oversaw the hiring of the first administrators, faculty and staff as well as the development of college policies and procedures. Franklin Patterson died in 1994.
