West, Allan M.
Biographical notes:
Born in Portland, Oregon, Oct. 16, 1910. Leader in various educational associations, author. Education: Utah State Agricultural College, the University of Utah, and the University of Chicago. His career included: Utah Education Association, Director of Research (1942-1946) and Executive Secretary (1946-1962); Editor of the Utah educational review from 1943-1961; National Education Association, Associate Director in the Membership Division and various other positions, retiring in 1973 as Executive Secretary. He wrote a book on the history of the NEA called The National Education Association: the power base for education, published in 1981.

Allan M. West received his college degrees from U.S.U., the University of Utah and the University of Chicago. He served as Director of Research for the Utah Education Association (1942-1946) ; he became executive secretary for the same organization (1946-1962) ; he was also the editor of the Ut̲a̲h̲ ̲Ed̲u̲c̲a̲t̲i̲o̲n̲a̲l̲ ̲Re̲v̲i̲e̲w̲ ̲from 1943-1961 ; he then joined the staff of the National Education Association as the associate director for membership.
