Friedman, George, 1897-1950

Dates:
Birth 1897
Death 1950

Biographical notes:

Lillian née Bach and Georg Friedmann (later Friedman) married in 1930 and lived in Schwandorf, Bavaria, where they appear to have operated a clothing store. After the events of Kristallnacht Georg was temporarily sent to the Dachau camp, and Lillian and other family members were jailed for a short time. Afterwards, partially through the support of distant American relatives, they secured passage on the ship Orinoco, but decided to try to get a spot on the earlier S. S. St. Louis to Havana. Lillian and Georg Friedmann, along with four relatives, were the only passengers allowed to disembark from the ship S. S. St. Louis in Havana. Shortly thereafter they emigrated to the United States and settled in Louisville. Georg Friedmann died in 1950.
