Biographical notes:

Herbert Brucker began his journalism career in 1924 as a reporter in New York. In 1932, he became assistant dean and professor in the journalism department at Columbia University and worked there for 12 years. In 1944, he began working as associate editor of the Hartford Courant. He was later promoted to editor and worked there until 1966. In 1969, he began writing a syndicated newspaper column. Brucker was president of the American Society of Newspaper Editors and the American Council on Education for Journalism. He advocated freedom of information in the press and was a member of the Connecticut Freedom of Information Commission. He was awarded several honorary degrees and awards in journalism. He passed away in 1977.
