Ford Motor Company. Plant Engineering Department.
Biographical notes:
Starting with the construction of the Highland Park Plant, Ford Motor Company maintained several departments dedicated to overseeing various construction projects related to company expansion and plant operations. Prior to World War II, the Building and Construction, Construction, and Power and Construction department staffs supervised plant layout, design, and construction. The post-war reorganization of Ford maintained this connection when the Plant Engineering Office was established to oversee plant design, tool layout, reconstruction, and new building. By 1949, company-wide building construction and maintenance was centralized as a staff function of the Manufacturing Division and removed from the daily operational duties of plant management.
