Local chapter of this national patriotic society formed to celebrate Anglo-Americanism during the highly nationalistic 1890s. The Western Reserve Chapter was founded in 1891 in Cleveland, Ohio by a group of women led by Catherine Hitchcock Tilden Avery. In addition to planning and implementing some of the earliest Americanization programs, the DAR has also been involved in providing nursing care and emergency relief to victims of wars and floods.
