Ashley Bowen (1728-1813) of Marblehead, Mass., was a seaman and merchant captain, a ship rigger, mender of sails, prolific diarist, an untrained but expressive artist, a committed Anglican, a reluctant Loyalist, husband of three wives and father of fourteen children.
