Biographical notes:
Detroit merchant.
Born in Detroit, Oct. 17, 1817, the son of Soloman and Sarah (Sproat) Sibley; was one of the first to being the practical development of copper and iron mines In the Lake Superior region. He was in California during the gold rush. Inheritor of a large estate In Detroit, he figured prominently in its industrial circles and also in connection with its civic interests. He married Marie Louise Miller. He died in New York, July 10, 1878. (from Burton, City of Detroit. III, 592.) (blue index cards)
