Biographical notes:
Sarah Cousins Tiffney graduated from Radcliffe College (A.B. 1932, A.M. 1933, Ph.D. 1936) She lived in Springfield, Massachusetts, with her husband Wesley Tiffney from 1936-1946. During the war she taught at American International College in Springfield. They moved to Sharon, Massachusetts, when Wesley was appointed professor of biology at Boston University. Sarah researched and hybridized Siberian and small bearded diploid irises, and was an avid gardener. The couple had two sons, Wesley (b. 1940) and Bruce (b. 1947), both of whom are biologists.
