Biographical notes:

Bernard E. Read was a pharmacologist who taught at Peking Medical College from 1909 to 1932 and later was Head of Physiological Services and Director of the Henry Lester Institute of Medical Research in Shanghai. Read was an expert on Chinese drugs and wrote widely.
