Belden, Gail
Biographical notes:
Gail Belden was secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Middle West Utilities Company and a lecturer in finance at Northwestern University. The Middle West Utilities Company was a holding company established in 1912 by Chicago entrepreneur Samuel Insull. It provided capital and expertise to small power, light, and gas companies usually located in rural areas. By 1930, the company owned subsidiaries in 30 states, from Wisconsin to Maine. It entered receivership in April 1932 and was reorganized as the Middle West Corporation in 1935.
