Biographical notes:
Father, Nisuke, was a Stockton, Calif. barber. Mother was Misako Nakamura Yoshikawa. Parents had five children. Richard, eldest, was attending photography school in Los Angeles when family was relocated to Rohwer (Ark.) Relocation Center (1942). He left camp to continue education at School of Modern Photography in New York City (1943-1944). Edward Fumio was college age at time of internment and joined U.S. Army (1944). Two youngest sons were about seven at time of relocation and daughter, Amy, was a young teenager. All save Richard and Edward remained in Rohwer throughout War. Yoshikawa family returned to Stockton at War's end (1945).
