Mühl, Emil, 1855-1894

Emil Mühl was born in Hermann, Missouri on February 13, 1855. He enrolled in a medical college in Indianapolis, graduating with honors in 1881. Upon graduation, he signed up for a duty tour as a civilian "contract surgeon" with the army and was stationed near Kingston in the New Mexico Territory. At the end of this assignment, he established a private medical practice in Albuquerque. After practicing in Albuquerque, he moved to the mountains of northern New Mexico, where he served as a resident doctor for a mining company located at Copper City.

Emil Mühl was born in Hermann, Missouri on February 13, 1855. At some point in his youth, he enlisted for a brief stint in the army, after which he went to Indianapolis to join his brother Siegmar who operated a drug store. Emil enrolled in a medical college in Indianapolis,, graduating with honors in 1881. Upon graduation, he signed up for a duty tour as a civilian "contract surgeon" with the army and was stationed near Kingston in the New Mexico Territory. At the end of this assignment, he established a private medical practice in Albuquerque. Embittered by an unsuccessful love affair, he retreated to the mountains of northern New Mexico, where he served as a resident doctor for a mining company located at Copper City.

In 1887, Emil Mühl returned to Indianapolis, but left again in the summer of 1889 to explore opportunities for practicing medicine. He planned to go to the territories of Oklahoma or Washington, but instead ended up following an advertisement for doctors to come to Sedalia, Missouri. Here, he anglicized his name from "Mühl" to "Muehl" and set up a medical office. On January 14, 1894, Emil Mühl died of an apparent heart attack, in Sedalia.
