Unton, the second son of Sir Edward Unton, was educated at Oriel College, Oxford, knighted by Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester for his services during the siege of Zutphen, was Elizabeth I's personal envoy to Henry IV of France, 1591, member of Parliament for New Woodstock, 1584, and Berkshire, 1592-1593, and ambassador to France, 1595.
