Lucille Webster Holling was born on Dec. 8, 1900 in Valparaiso, IN; attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in Chicago, where she met Holling Clancy Holling; designed theatrical scenery and costumes, and drew for fashion publications; married Holling in 1925; designed for drama dept. on the first University World Cruise, 1926-27; with Holling, produced national advertising art and foreign travel brochures; Lucille illustrated a number of books and together they illustrated textbooks; among the Hollings's joint publications are The book of indians (1935) and The book of cowboys (1936); moved to California, and worked with her husband on books; in 1951 she designed and oversaw the construction of their studio residence in Pasadena.
