Biographical notes:

John White Hughes Bassett, or John Junior, son of John Bassett, was born in 1915. Following service in World War 2, John Junior went into the publishing business. As chairman and publisher of the Toronto Telegram, John Junior shared an interest in the newspaper industry with his father and Lord Beaverbrook. John Junior established his own friendship with Beaverbrook, sometimes seeking advice, often corresponding about family and political affairs.
