Neal Hammon discusses his father, his education, enlisting in the Navy, military training, his experiences during World War II (WW II) and the Korean War. Topics include ships he was assigned to, duties he performed on board, the U.S.S. Montpelier, the U.S.S. Helena, the Philipines, Okinawa, Shanghai, Korea, Truck Island, Hiroshima, the 20th Birthday of the Panama Canal, and Greenwich Village in New York City. Other topics include the Mars (a flying boat), flag bird, and life after the military. At the end of the interview Mr. Hammon sings some of the Navy songs he remembers.
