Biographical notes:

Eaton Stannard Barrett (1786-1820), an Irish born writer and poet, wrote a number of political satires, a mock romance, The Heroine (which reached a third edition) and a comedy My Wife, What Wife?, but he is best known for his poem on Women. This was first published in Women and other poems in 1810 and subsequent editions appeared in 1819, 1822 and 1846.
