Fitzgerald, Thomas, 1796-1855
Biographical notes:
Born in Germantown, N.Y., Apr. 10,1796. Lost an arm in War of 1812. Married Mary Baldwin in 1818; moved to Indiana where he taught school; studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1821. Was a member of the Indiana Legislature. In 1832 was appointed lighthouse keeper at St. Joseph. He was clerk of Berrien Co., 1834; bank commissioner, 1837; Democratic candidate for Lieutenant Governor; appointed U.S. senator in 1848 to fill vacancy caused by resignation of Cass. Died in Niles, Mar. 25,1855. (from Mich. Biogs.) (blue index cards)
