Biographical notes:

Myron Barrett was born in North East, New York, on September 19, 1816, and attended Burr Seminary, in Vermont, for his early schooling. He moved to Columbus, Ohio, after his 1844 graduation from Yale, and taught school for four years before pursuing a degree in divinity from Union Theological Seminary and, later, Princeton. Barrett graduated from Princeton in 1851 and preached in Pontiac, Michigan, before assuming posts in Newton, New Jersey; New Haven, Connecticut; and Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. He returned to Newton around 1871 and became a trustee of the Newton Collegiate Institute, a position he held until his death on May 8, 1876. Barrett married Emma E. Ryerson in 1856, and they had three children: David, Andrew, and Sarah.
