Biographical notes:
Davenport Johnson (b. March 28, 1890, Tyler, Tex.-d. Oct. 21, 1963), U.S. Air Force officer, was commissioned in the infantry from West Point in 1912. He served in the invasion of Vera Cruz, with the 1st Aero Squadron in Mexico, and was commanding officer of the 95th Aero Squadron in the American Expeditionary Forces in 1918. After graduating from the Command and General Staff School, acting as instructor at the Air Corps Tactical School, and graduating from the Army War College, he served as assistant to the chief of the Air Corps. During World War II, General Johnson was assigned duty with the Caribbean Command, was commander, 6th Air Force; director of military personnel in the Air Corps; and commanding general of both the 2nd and 11th Air Force. He retired in 1945.
