Active 1970

Biographical notes:

The Advisory Board of the Department of Correction was established in 1962 to assume the duties performed formerly by the Board of Correction (Laws of 1962, ch. 123). The Advisory Board consisted of a chairman and six associate members, at least one of whom had to be a woman, with the chairman of the Parole and Probation Board sitting ex-officio. The board met bi-monthly. As its primary function, the board studied and observed the state penal system and advised the commissioner of correction concerning the "operations and administration of the Department and ... its several institutions and agencies."

In 1968, the Department of Correction was renamed the Department of Correctional Services (Laws of 1968, ch. 137). Two years later, when that department was replaced by the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, the Advisory Board was abolished (Laws of 1970, ch. 401). The department's correctional advisory functions as well as those of the Advisory Board of the Department of Parole and Probation were assigned tothe new Advisory Board for Correction, Parole, and Probation.
