Wesley Dennis was born May 16, 1903, in Falmouth, Mass., and died September 5, 1966, in Falmouth. He was an author and illustrator of books for children, and worked in the art departments of several Boston newspaper. He was also employed by department stores, doing fashions at Jordan Marsh, and Christmas cards and portraits at Filene's. King of the Wind, written by Marguerite Henry and illustrated by Dennis, won the Newbery Medal in 1949. Dennis is especially remembered for his illustrations of children's books about horses.
