Blumenthal, Sidney, 1865-1948
Biographical notes:
Blumenthal was the head of Sidney Blumenthal and Co., with headquarters in New York City and sales offices in Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C. The company was started in 1854 as A. and S. Blumenthal; its name changed to Sidney Blumenthal and Co. in 1889. Shelton Looms in Shelton, Conn., was a company subsidiary. It manufactured pile fabrics for upholstery used in homes, automobiles, trains and airplanes, as well as fur fabrics and velvets for ladies' garments, toys and novelty items. Other divisions were located at Uncasville, Conn., Rocky Mount and Wilson, N.C., and Valley Falls and Woonsocket, R.I.
