Mary Lewis Harris of Cabarrus County, North Carolina was a student of the North Carolina State Normal and Industrial School (now The University of North Carolina at Greensboro), graduating in 1894. Harris presented her graduating essay titled, What Shall We Eat, and Where Withal Shall We Be Clothed? at the May 1894 Class Day Exercises. She later married J. F. Reed.
