Biographical notes:

Spiro was born on Dec. 5, 1912; became a poet, contributing to over 600 periodicals with translations in nine languages; became Director of Star West Publications; he is the author of Cobwebs from California (1973), Sea Webs from California (1976), and Passport (1978).

Leon Spiro was a Bay Area literary figure, who created the Star-West Library and the following local publications: the Sausalito-Belvedere Gazette, Star-West, and the Larvae du Golden Gate. He was aslo a poet, critic, and proficient translator of French, Portuguese, and Spanish. He collected and made available poetry in a range of languages. When not engaged in literary pursuits, Spiro was a civil engineer for the city of San Francisco.
