Biographical notes:
Frederick Gray Murray and Janette Stevenson were both born approximately 1874. On June 19, 1902, they married in Waterloo, Iowa. Frederick had just finished a two-year internship at Chicago's Presbyterian Hospital. Now, he was to be a lumber camp doctor for six months in Shelldrake, Michigan. When his service ended, he and Janette returned to Iowa. In November 1902, Frederick established a practice in Cedar Rapids. He continued to practice medicine until his retirement in 1955. Meanwhile, Janette became renowned as a writer, lecturer, historian and active campaigner for women's suffrage. Together, the two authored an important history of Cedar Rapids (The story of Cedar Rapids. New York : Stratford House, 1950). The couple had five children. Janette passed away in 1963, and Frederick in 1971.
