League of Women Voters of Lynchburg (Va.)
Biographical notes:
The League of Women Voters of Lynchburg was first organized in 1936 and discontinued by World War II. The chapter was reactivated in 1957 to help citizens become well informed about the structure and operation of local, state and national governments and important issues for consideration. Local issues included changes to the local voting system, the establishment of a city library, tax assessments and the addition of counseling services to the city school system. The League actively supports voter participation in the political process through its efforts at voter registration. The League is a non-partisan organization and does not support or oppose candidates or political parties.
