Biographical notes:

During his inaugural speech as the University of Central Florida's fourth president, John C. Hitt proclaimed, "I fervently believe that UCF will become America's leading metropolitan university. With your help and support, we will move forward together--in partnership--to write the next chapter in the saga of a university destined for greatness." Since President Hitt's inauguration on November 19, 1992, UCF has become one of the top ten largest universities in the country, serving eleven central Florida counties with four regional campuses and several satellite campuses. Prior to becoming UCF's fourth president, Dr. Hitt served at the University of Maine as the interim president from 1991-1992 and Vice President of Academic Affairs from 1987-1992. Dr. Hitt served at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois as Provost of Academic Affairs from 1981-1987 as well as Vice President of Academic Affairs from 1977-1987. Holding degrees from Austin College (A.B in psychology, 1962) and Tulane University (M.S. and PhD in Physiological Psychology, 1964 and 1966), Dr. Hitt is a certified psychologist, respected professor, author and editor. Dr. Hitt has been married to his wife, Martha Ann Hitt since 1961 and has two children and two grandchildren.
