Fogg, Howard
Biographical notes:
Howard Fogg was born on April 7, 1917 in Brooklyn, NY and graduated from Chicago Academy of Fine Arts studying cartooning. In 1939 he began working for a railroad company as a clerk, in 1941 Baldwin Locomotive Works hired Fogg as an apprentice engineer, and in 1946 American Locomotive Company (later known as ALCO) hired Fogg as company artist to promote diesel power railcars. Lucius Beebe used Fogg illustrations for most of his books and John Walker Barriger III arranged a large exhibit of Fogg's work at the St. Louis Union Station. Fogg retired in 1957 but continued to illustrate for Alco and private commissions. Fogg died on Oct. 1, 1996. During his career Fogg produced over 1,200 paintings (at least 800 for commissions), and illustrated approximately 100 books and 70 cards.
