Biographical notes:

Dr. William H. (Bill) Huber was the founder of University College and served as its first dean. He was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on April 18, 1922. Earning his L.L.B. at Ohio State University in 1947, he moved to Albuquerque with his wife Sarah and began teaching Business Law at UNM’s College of Business Administration that same year. In accordance with his interest in improving the higher education experience for the University’s students, he originated the University College and the Bachelor of University Studies degree in 1957, serving as the College’s dean until his retirement in 1983. When the University was closed for summer breaks, he taught the “Bar Review Course" to law school graduates in order to prepare them for the New Mexico bar examination. Huber died at his home in Albuquerque on April 22, 2009. In 2010, the Board of Regents renamed the building at 2811 Campus Boulevard the Huber House in his honor.
