Biographical notes:

Colonel Wier G. Boyd (1820 -1893) was born to William R. Boyd and Elizabeth Burton in Hall County, Georgia on September 14, 1820. His family moved to Lumpkin County, Georgia in 1835. On February 9, 1843, he married Sarah J. Sitton. They had five children: Augustus; Lydia; Marion; Martha; and Sarah. In 1850, Boyd was elected Clerk of the Superior Court. During the Georgia Gold Rush (around 1850), he moved to Dahlonega, Georgia where he acquired a gold mine. In 1856, he was admitted to the Georgia bar and became a prominent attorney in Lumpkin County. He served in both houses of the Georgia legislature. During the Civil War, Boyd served as Colonel of the 52nd Georgia Regiment. After the war, he was chosen a member of the Georgia Constitutional Convention, which drafted the Georgia Constitution of 1877. Colonel Wier Boyd died on November 8, 1893.
