Biographical notes:

John Black, British journalist and newspaper editor. For twenty-six years, Black was the editor of the London newspaper The Morning Chronicle. He is perhaps best remembered as having been the first employer of a young Charles Dickens, who later described Black as his "first hearty out-and-out appreciator."
