Biographical notes:
Lewis H. Sands, born in Baltimore, moved to Kentucky in 1825 and to Greencastle, Ind. in 1826. He was a merchant, postmaster, and Indian agent, and in 1835 he supervised the removal of the Potawatomie Indians to the West. He served a term in the Indiana House in 1832-1833. He was appointed a colonel during the Civil War, fell ill at Camp Morton in 1861, and soon died.
