Ted (Theodore) Collier was born 29 October 1902, in Vernal, Utah. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the South Texas Mission from 1922 to 1924. On May 23, 1928, Ted married DeFonda Virtue Dowdle. He died June 9, 1966 of a heart attack.

Defonda Virtue Dowdle Collier was an avid writer who collected children's literature.

DeFonda Virtue Dowdle Collier was born September 1, 1904 in Logan, Utah. She grew up in Newton, Utah. In 1922, she wrote for the Cache Valley High School newspaper, the Clarion. She married Ted Collier on May 23, 1928. Together, DeFonda and Ted had seven children. After Ted's death in 1966, she continued to write letters to her children. She traveled across the United States with Eunice Young in 1978. She also continued her study and collection of children's literature. In 1998, her mind began to slip away. DeFonda died on October 24, 2002.
