Biographical notes:

President of Virginia's Roanoke College (1903-1920), John A. Morehead (1867-1936) served as chairman of the National Lutheran Council's European Commission (1919-1929) as well as NLC executive director (1923- 1930). He was instrumental in the organization of the Lutheran World Convention (LWC) in 1923 and served as its executive committee president from 1923 until 1930. In 1930, Morehead was elected LWC president, a position he held until 1935.
