Biographical notes:

Paul H. Williams Jr. was born on July 7, 1923 in La Grange, Ga., the son of Paul H. and Loretta M Williams. In elementary school he won several art scholarships and eventually attended the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. An avid skier, Williams volunteered for the 10th Mountain Division in late 1942 at Camp Hale, Colo. He was assigned to Company B of the 86th Infantry Division and later served with Headquarters and Company F of the 85th. At Camp Hale and during combat operations in Italy, Williams documented his experiences with his artwork. After the war he received an M.F.A. in painting from the University of Southern California. Williams was a professor of art at Adams State College, Alamosa, Colo. for more than 30 years.
