The Department of Education in Oswego, New York was originally organized in 1853 as the Board of Education. The Department of Education for this region is presently titled the City School District of Oswego.

The public school system of Oswego, New York was initiated in 1848 for the purpose of providing education for the "poorer classes". The first school board for the city was formed in 1852 and continues to operate in the present day.
